Lachie Neale is free to collect his expected Brownlow Medal after he was cleared of any wrongdoing following a tackle that injured Sydney’s Nick Blakey.
Former Fremantle star Neale faced scrutiny for the third-quarter tackle, where he drove Blakey into the turf, resulting in the young Swan’s head hitting the ground.
Blakey went to the bench shaking his head but returned to play out the remainder of the game, which Brisbane won despite Neale being blanketed by tagger Ryan Clarke.
Match Review Officer Michael Christian this afternoon cleared Neale of any wrongdoing, with the Lions star escaping a fine.
“It was the view of the MRO that Neale’s actions did not constitute rough conduct. No further action was taken,” he said in a statement.
Neale is a $1.20 raging favourite to take out this year’s Brownlow on the back of a scintillating campaign for the premiership-contending Lions.
The midfielder has averaged 27 disposals and added 11 goals to sit well ahead of Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak ($7) and Melbourne’s Christian Petracca ($10) in bookmakers’ reckoning.
