Holden enthusiast and martial arts expert Brendan McFaull is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League. He’s driving his Dream Car — a 1969 Holden HK Monaro GTS, which he’s just finished restoring.
What are you driving and why did you buy it?
I have a 1969 Holden HK Monaro GTS, which was my dream car since I first saw it in 1986. I just had to have that particular car. I am the second owner and I knew the previous owner, whom I worked with. I always asked her “how’s my favourite car?” And now I’ve owned it since 2007. It’s just finished a 14-year restoration — though I’ve had a number of old Holdens over the years, including an 1967 HR Holden panel van, which was a daily driver.
What’s your dream car?
Of course, it’s the Monaro. How could you go past those sleek lines? I can’t think of any other car I’d rather own. But I also have a VW Touareg and it’s brilliant to drive.
What was your first car?
A bright red 1972 Datsun 180B. What a car! I took off the hubcaps to make it go faster.
What annoys you most about other motorists?
Tailgaters are a favourite of mine. I love blowing kisses to them as I change lanes to let them on their way. Why is everyone in such a hurry when driving?
What’s your favourite driving music?
I have a 25-hour playlist, but Cream, Rolling Stones and James Reyne are often on.
