BMW 7 Series gets all-electric model to add to the big six-cylinder 740i

BMW’s new 7 Series will be launched, for the first time, with an all-electric drive system in the BMW i7.

The fully-electric i7 xDrive60 incorporates fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology with dual motors producing 400kW and 745Nm.

And it joins the only other 7 Series model, the 740i with its 48-volt mild hybrid technology. It has a TwinPower Turbo in-line six cylinder engine deliver 280kW and 540Nm.

The big sedans come with a huge new long wheelbase of 3215mm (5mm longer than the last, sixth generation, long wheelbase model). Overall vehicle length, width and height has increased by 130mm, 48mm and 51mm respectively.

The cars are due for launch in Australia in the last quarter of this year, with prices and specifications to be announced later.
