Bethesda Health Care to build mental health hospital in Cockburn

A new mental health hospital – the first private facility in Perth’s southern suburbs – will be built in Cockburn.

Bethesda Health Care will announce today its plan to build the new hospital on 10,000sqm of land at the Cockburn Central West precinct.

The hospital will cater for voluntary mental health patients only and have 40 overnight beds, a wellbeing centre and consultation rooms.

Bethesda Health Care chief executive Neale Fong said there was a major mental health bed shortage in WA.

“This facility will go a long way to assisting to ease the burden,” he said.Construction is expected to start at the end of this year, with the first patients being admitted in 2022.
