Beechboro man jailed over two home quarantine breaches

A 37-year-old man has been jailed for eight months after he breached his quarantine direction on two occasions and drove with a suspended licence.

The man first arrived at Perth Airport on August 17 from Queensland and was issued a self-quarantine direction to an address in Beechboro.

On August 23 police went to the address but the man was not there.

Police waited for his return and he was subsequently issued a summons to appear in court for failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act.

But just four days later police found the man again outside of his home.

The man was stopped while driving a vehicle in the Midland area and he was arrested and conveyed to the Perth Watch House.

He appeared by video link at Midland Magistrate’s Court on August 28 and was remanded in custody until September 11.

In court on Friday he was sentenced to a total of eight months jail for the quarantine breaches and for driving with a suspended licence.

Additionally, his driver’s licence was disqualified for nine months.
