Beaufort Street 12RND Fitness Gym reopening paused after ‘bullet hole’ found

A Perth fitness studio scheduled to open its doors for the first time since COVID-19 restrictions forced its closure has had to delay today’s reopening after a bullet hole was found in the building’s front window.

Forensics were today at 12RND Fitness on the corner of Beaufort Street and Shaftesbury Avenue, where the owner found a hole in the club’s front window early this morning.

Mel Dragon said she had no idea why the Bedford gym had beared the brunt of last night’s “random attack”, but was not worried about the future safety of the business.

“There was no one in the club at the time. It was late at night. It has to be random. What other reason would there have been to do this,” Ms Dragon, 43, said.

I didn’t see anyone there so maybe it was a drive by.

A close neighbour said he heard what sounded like “two gunshots at 11.30pm”.

“It sounded like an echo almost. I went out and didn’t see it. I didn’t see anyone there so maybe it was a drive by,” Peter Mrdja said.

Ms Dragon said she had not been allowed to enter the club since the damage was discovered, but hoped they would be able to re open on Monday.

The mother-of-one said in the two-and-a-half years she has owned the business, “nothing like his has ever happened”.

“Maybe it’s a case of a mistaken address,” she said.

“Neighbours heard a loud bang at 11.30pm, but police are still piecing it together.

“It just sucks because today was our first day of reopening.”

Mirrabooka detectives believe the bullet was fired about 11.10pm last night and have asked for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.

They have identified a white van that was in the area around the time of the shot and are hopeful the driver of that vehicle can shed more light on the incident.
