Leading owner Bob Peters is bullish about Battle Storm’s chances of extending his unbeaten record in tomorrow’s Amelia Park Handicap (1000m) at Belmont Park.
Battle Storm is the $1.55 TABtouch favourite after bolting in by 3 3/4 lengths on debut at Belmont last Saturday week.
The Adam Durrant-trained four-year-old was held back from starting his career earlier after battling tendon problems.
Despite usually being reserved when speaking about his runners, Peters expects Battle Storm to again prove hard to beat.
“I would think so, on his run the other day and the time he ran,” Peters said.
“If he didn’t start racing until late, he wouldn’t be in this class.”
Battle Storm is rated the best of Peters’ three starters and champion jockey William Pike’s seven rides tomorrow.
They also team up with last-start winners Mystery Miss, the $1.70 favourite for the Heineken Plate (1300m), and Bold Success ($4.20).
Mystery Miss bolted in by 21/4 lengths in a 1000m maiden at Northam first-up.
“I like her,” Peters said.
“She’s by Animal Kingdom and out of a very good family.
“Hopefully she shows us she’s got some ability.”
Peters will also be chasing success in Sunday’s Listed Boulder Cup (2100m) at Kalgoorlie with the $2.15 favourite, State Prosecutor.
The Belmont Guineas (1600m) winner meets Prying Tom 1.5kg better after running a half-length second to him at Belmont last start.
Pike again rides State Prosecutor, who jumps from barrier one. Prying Tom is the $2.45 second favourite.
