Basketball superstar Ben Simmons to be hottest ticket in Perth following Boomer announcement

Basketball will be the hottest ticket in Perth this August when Australia’s biggest sporting superstar comes to town.

Basketball sensation Ben Simmons yesterday announced to the world that he would play for the Boomers.

“I am going to be a Boomer for the upcoming events, so stay tuned,” the Philadelphia 76ers megastar declared to his 796,000 followers on Twitter.

In a major coup for WA, Australia’s next fixture is against Canada at RAC Arena on August 16 and 17, ahead of the FIBA World Cup.

Barring injury, Simmons will wear the green and gold alongside NBA teammates Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Aron Baynes, Thon Maker, Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova.

The cheapest tickets are priced at $79.90 for adults and $49.90 for children under 16, with front-row courtside seats costing $1500. Tickets are still available.

Simmons has taken the basketball world by storm since he was picked at No. 1 in the 2016 NBA draft. He was crowned NBA rookie of the year and earned All-Star status this season. He is now preparing to negotiate a monster contract that could earn him $223 million over the next five years.

Off the court, Simmons is dating supermodel Kendal Jenner, the star of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

The couple have regularly been forced to battle paparazzi scrums on nights out while Jenner, pictured, has been courtside at many of Simmons’ games for the 76ers.

Former Boomers star Shane Heal hailed Simmons’ commitment as a “game changer” as Australia chase their first medal at a World Cup or Olympics.

Boomers coach Andrej Lemanis and assistant coach Luc Longley were in constant communication with Simmons as he prepared to make his decision and Lemanis said it was a massive boost for the team.

“He’s just a phenomenal passer,” he said.

“He sees the court so well and I think that’s really going to fit with the team ethos.

“As a group, we always play in the best interest of the team.”
