Baby found ‘wrapped in plastic inside freezer’ in NSW

A 40-year-old woman arrested after the body of a baby was found wrapped in plastic in a freezer in country NSW has been released by police.

The newborn, who was reported missing, had been found dead allegedly inside a freezer in the State’s Murray River region late Wednesday night.

NSW Police made the horrific discovery at 10pm on Wednesday, after they were called to a Corowa home after concerns were raised for the welfare of the infant.

The baby was believed to be three months old.

A 40-year-old woman arrested at the scene and taken into police custody has reportedly been released pending further inquiries.

A neighbour has told the ABC she heard cries but wasn’t aware the couple living at the address had a baby.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the house following a “concern for welfare.”

“Officers searched the house and located the body of a child,” the spokeswoman said.

The homicide squad and forensic officers are at the house scouring the crime scene for evidence.

More to come.
