The Colorado Avalanche can seemingly do no wrong on this eight-game winning streak. Even when what the Avs do looks oh so wrong.
Take right winger Mikko Rantanen, for instance. In Thursday night’s 4-1 victory over the visiting San Jose Sharks, the 21-year-old forward attempted to set a screen in front of the net but obstructed Mark Barberio short more than intended. When Barberio fired a shot from just inside the blue line, the puck’s trajectory carried it perfectly (?) into the crotch of Rantanen, then deflecting past goalie Martin Jones.
The goal was Rantanen’s 16th of the season and put the Avs up 4-0 early in the second period. Colorado will close out its homestand at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts the New York Rangers.
