ASX-listed Auroch Minerals has quickly created a target-rich environment under the old Nepean nickel mine after multiple high priority nickel sulphide drill targets were identified, adding to a growing list of prospects at its Nepean Deeps target in WA. The company says down-hole electromagnetic surveys following its maiden diamond drill campaign at Nepean unearthed three off-hole conductors centred at 540 metres, 1,025m and 1,230m down-hole. Auroch says it will immediately get to work with drilling scheduled to kick start in the next couple of days.
An additional clear-off-hole anomaly was also identified by a down-hole magnetometric resistivity survey which, when combined with the electromagnetic survey work together to home in on the magnetic qualities of nickel mineralisation. The campaign’s goal at Nepean has been centred around testing down-plunge extensions to what is believed to be high-grade nickel sulphide mineralisation beneath the historic Nepean mine.
These latest survey results add to a string of successes for Auroch deep under Nepean following the recent announcement of some 700m of potentially lithium-bearing pegmatite at the project.
According to the company, the results from the electromagnetic survey are potentially indicative of a well-developed nickel-sulphide mineralisation at Nepean, where some 78m of prospective komatiitic ultramafic rocks across four zones were found.
Interestingly, Auroch says these rocks seemingly correlate to four ultramafic zones in the mine stratigraphy of the old Nepean mine.
The uppermost conductor at 540m down-hole is proximal to the ultramafic zone and is considered highly prospective. The company says the conductor will be diamond drill tested this week.
The long-awaited results from our second phase of regional exploration drilling at Nepean have also successfully defined several strong drill targets with the potential to host significant nickel sulphide mineralisation, to be tested by the next campaign of regional drilling that is currently being planned.
The enormous prospectivity of the Nepean Project is really beginning to become apparent, and we will continue with our aggressive exploration programmes as we push forward to finding that potential new nickel sulphide discovery!
The company says down-hole electromagnetic surveys from additional regional RC drilling at Nepean have identified several additional prospects that will also be drill-tested this week.
With both nickel and lithium enjoying something of a resurgence in recent times, Auroch’s continued exploration of the historic Nepean mine could turn out to be a perfect case of right place, right time.
