Ashes 2021-22: Australian star Steve Smith caught out shadow batting in his Adelaide hotel room at night

It seems Christmas came early for Australian stand-in skipper Steve Smith, who was caught by his wife enjoying a new cricket bat in his Adelaide hotel room at 1am.

Smith, who fell just short of another Test century on Friday when he scored 93 in Australia’s first innings, has been known for his love of batting and quirky habits a tall hours of the night during a match.

And his wife Dani caught him in the act playing with a fresh New Balance bat as he prepares to bat again in the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval.

With famous sit-com Seinfeld in the background, Smith goes through his full stance and playing a shot, while checking out the new piece of willow he hopes will help him score more runs this summer.

Smith would reshare it on his Instagram, admitting he’d been caught out.

It’s not the first time his wife has released footage of the batter doing some shadow batting in his hotel room, with batsman doing it in his full whites earlier this year.

Smith is well-known for his on field and off field quirks, which have hit social media over the years, which include extravegant leaves and hand movements which reflect what a bowler is trying to do.

Australia will start this morning’s innings with a lead of 282, with opener Marcus Harris unbeaten on 21 and nightwatchman Michael Neser on two.
