Amy Wakelam, Scott Dennett win long-course events in great conditions at Geraldton Triathlon Club race

The temperature may have been hot on Sunday, but the racing was even hotter at the Geraldton Triathlon Club’s event.

Everyone was looking forward to the swim on January 23, with even the jellyfish out in force.

The conditions were perfect, with flat water and little to no breeze, allowing the athletes to clock fast times over all three legs.

Amy Wakelam took out the women’s long-course event.

Her fast run brought her home strong.

Scott Dennett won the men’s division, with the fastest swim of the day.

The swim cemented his whole race.

Chris Cooper, Andrew Blackburn and Jeff Peacock proved why they are life members of the club.

In a show of club spirit, Cooper helped a triathlete get her bike sorted before her first-ever race, while Blackburn and Peacock did a quick repair on a fellow competitor’s bike so they would avoid a did-not-finish.

Due to a timing system fault, not all athletes could access their results right after the race, but the club plans to update these as soon as possible.

Next week’s race is at St Georges Beach for the Club Championship Series race four.

New members are welcome and more experienced racers are happy to offer assistance.
