Allen powers NZ to victory over Scotland

Finn Allen’s 101 powered New Zealand to a 68-run win against Scotland in the first IT20 in Edinburgh.

New Zealand took charge in the two-match series, with Allen leading the way as the visitors coasted to the win.

The Black Caps posted 5 for 225 from their 20-over complement, Martin Guptill posting 40 in an 85-run opening stand with Allen.

Allen, who struck six sixes and eight fours, was finally out after facing 56 balls when he was stumped by Matthew Cross off Mark Watt.

James Neesham struck 30, Glenn Phillips claimed 23 and Daryl Mitchell wound up with an unbeaten 23.

Ishi Sodhi then snared 4 for 28 and Mitch Santner 2 for 23 as the tourists made light work of wrapping up their win.

Calum MacLeod top-scored with 33 for the hosts, who batted through their allotted overs but could only muster 8 for 155.

George Munsey scored a creditable 28 at the top of the innings, while Chris Greaves offered some resistance for 31, but the home side were outclassed.

The second and final match of the series is in Edinburgh on Friday.
