Alleged SA granny killer arrested in Vic

A man will be charged with murdering South Australian grandmother Beverley Hanley, whose body was found more than eight years ago.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Victoria and will be extradited to face an Adelaide magistrate later in the week, police said on Thursday.

Ms Hanley, 64, was found dead in her Elizabeth North home in October 2010, and last year police said they had fresh forensic evidence linking her death to two other killings – those of a 71-year-old woman and a man aged 55.

Ms Hanley suffered severe head injuries, her home was ransacked and her handbag stolen, detectives said.

Theft was believed to be a motive in all three killings.

“Each attack was extremely brutal,” SA Detective Superintendent Des Bray told media last year.

The arrested man is only expected to be charged with Ms Hanley’s death.
