Adelaide players in pre-game COVID testing

Adelaide United players and staff had COVID tests during their warm-up for Saturday’s A-League Men clash against Brisbane on Saturday, coach Carl Veart revealed.

The Reds were preparing to play the Roar at Moreton Daily Stadium before undergoing the tests, with Veart admitting his players had been nervously watching developments back home as South Australia tightens its border over concerns about the Omicron coronavirus variant.

“It was a little bit disruptive before the game because we all had to have a test in the change room,” Veart said.

“I think we now need to go to the hospital now and have another test.

“At the moment we just follow what APL want us to do.”

SA premier Steven Marshall hasn’t ruled out locking out travellers from NSW, Victoria and the ACT as the state reported five new cases amid its unfolding outbreak.

Queensland had three new local cases reported on Saturday.

The escalating situation hasn’t altered Adelaide’s travel plans back from Queensland at this stage but it could impact on next Saturday’s clash with rivals Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium.

“Not that I’m aware of,” Veart said when asked if his team’s return to SA could be affected.

“As I just said we had a quick test before the game and we’re all clear and now we have to go again.”
