Shane Burge has been installed as the Shire of Esperance’s new chief executive.
Mr Burge, who had been acting in the top job since the departure of Matthew Scott, was selected from a field of 22 applicants at a special council meeting this morning.
In a statement released this morning, Mr Burge thanked the council for the opportunity.
“I have strong ties to Esperance and its community and am excited to serve them in my capacity as CEO,” he said.
“I would like to thank the Council for this opportunity as well as the Shire of Esperance staff and Esperance community for their ongoing support.
“I look forward to working with Council and the community on new and exciting projects in the future.”
Mr Burge has worked in local government for more than 22 years and has held several senior roles.
Shire of Esperance president Ian Mickel said Mr Burge was the best person for the role.
“Shane was selected from an extremely impressive field of candidates,” he said.
“He has been Acting CEO for four months now and during this time council has noticed a positive difference in the Shire.”
Mr Burge’s previous roles include serving as the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley chief executive.
