Genesis has revealed engine details for its upcoming GV70 medium SUV, which is expected to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2021.
It will do battle against the likes of the Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3.
Hyundai’s fledgling luxury brand will offer three engines, headlined by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol offering a hefty 280kW/530Nm and a brisk 5.1-second 0-100km/h time.
Other powertrains include a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol (224kW/422Nm) and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel (155kW/441Nm).
Local details are yet to be revealed, but all three engines are a chance to come to our shores given the larger GV80 also offers a pair of petrols and a diesel in Australia.
Each engine can be had with the Sport Package which adds an electronic limited slip differential and other performance-themed styling additions.
When driving hard, Active Sound Design produces virtual engine sounds based on the driving mode (those are the howls from purists you can hear).
All-wheel-drive is standard on the V6 and optional on the four-cylinders, with AWD models getting a Multi Terrain Control system allowing drivers to select differnt modes for surfaces such as snowy roads, sand, or mud.
The front camera and navigation system provide info which sees the suspension adjust on the fly for maximum comfort.
Safety tech is expectedly high, with Genesis’ Highway Driving Assist II allowing for semi-autonomous driving by controlling the steering, speed and able to change lanes just by turning on the indicator.

Inside, Genesis says passengers will enjoy a generous amount of space by offering “superior reclining angles”, wide leg room, ventilated seats and more.
The doors are “wrapped” to prevent pant stains when getting in or out of the vehicle, while the step height lowers the foot access widens to kids to easily hop in or out.
There’s also a dual filter system to improve air quality by preventing fine dust and bacteria from entering the engine room pre-filter and indoor cabin filter.
